Replacements for Picasa which is vanishing soon

May 2, 2016 by Satyapriya

google-picasa-logo[1]

Picasa is the most loved photo organizing and editing app for many people and I am among them. As Goggle is going to shutdown Picasa service very soon, we have to shift to something else which is a kind of replacement to that beautiful software. As Picasa is free to use, here I share with you only the free replacements. There might be the better replacements if you are willing to pay.

One thing which I find very unfortunate is that we have to use two different softwares to get the services of photo organization and editing while Picasa used to offer both the services together.

XnViewMP:

This software is not just a photo browser, but a media browser, so you can also find your video and audio files and almost 500 file formats that it recognizes. It can be best used a s photo organizer rather than a photo editor. It gives the instant information about the photo like its size, time and date taken, lens and all. Its feature of tagging your photos is the best.

Its available for windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.

1

FastStone Image Viewer:

It may have few photo editing features, but it can be best used as a photo organizing app. It has few editing features like red eye removal, comparison, emailing, resizing, cropping and colour adjustments. But its only available in Windows operating system.

2

Photoshop Elements:

It is from the family of Photoshop software. It’s a stripped down version of Photoshop that allows you to organize and edit all your photos. The most liked features in Picasa are available in this software which include the facial recognition, fun printables, easy sharing. With the power of Photoshop in built in it, you can be sure that you get quality edited pictures.

3

Microsoft Photos:

It’s the native app for Windows OS users which lets to organize and photos easily. The editing features in this app are limited to some basic edits only.

4

JetPhoto Studio:

If your needs are so simple and you just need a software which allows you organize your photos and od some basic photo editings, then this could be the best software for you. This is available for both Mac and windows users.

5

Paint.NET:

If you have already decided to use FastStone or JetPhoto, then this could be the best compliment software for those as they both are limited to very basic photo editing features, so you can do all your editings with this while they will help you in organizing your photos.

6

So now plan by choosing from the various softwares I have mentioned above and start using them as you get used to them by the time Picasa goes away. I hope and wish that you would like these as you like Picasa. But definitely it takes some time.
