After the failure of Free Basic plans in India, Facebook again enters into India with a fresh idea. You are already familiar with Google’s WiFi services in Indian railway stations.
Facebook is reentering into the Indian internet market with the same plan by offering Free Internet services to various railway stations across the country. RailTel, the company behind the Wi-Fi services to the Indian railway stations, looking for more partnerships and approached Facebook with the proposal. Facebook positively responded to the proposal and ready to provide the free internet services in India.
Unlike Google, the Facebook free internet doesn’t limit to railway stations, and the company is going to provide the free internet access up to 10 kilometers from the railway station. The company also has the plan to expand the reach up to 25 kilometers by adding additional access points.
RailTel already has 45,000 kilometers optic fiber network connecting 4,500 towns and 5000 different railway stations across the country. Along with Google and Facebook RailTel also in talks with other Telecom companies in India to provide free internet services to the railway stations.
