slow internet connection

Time to time Facebook is tweaking the application to work smoothly for all the users with different connection types. Exploring Facebook Newsfeed with slow internet connection always tests our patience. The loading wheel kills our interest to go forward in the newsfeed. Keeping this in mind Facebook tweaked the newsfeed to particularly for the slow internet connection users.

Facebook released an update for the Facebook Newsfeed client architecture to make loading of newsfeed stories smooth.

One year back Facebook implemented a similar tweak which allows some stories to load faster even though the user is using the app with slow internet connection. The old tweak is possible through “server-side ranking” feature which prioritizes the stories based on various aspects.

Facebook found that India has great potential to expand its reach. The major drawback in India is poor network connectivity in the rural parts of the country.

If Facebook manages to work the application even in the slow connections, more people will start using the social network. Indirectly it will improve the revenue share of the company.

You already know that Facebook earlier tried to introduce Free Basics in India to gain a large user base. But TRAI and citizens of India rejected its commercial proposals.
