Apple has a clear strategy for improving its sales. It is following the same strategy since a long time.
The company is releasing the new iOS versions to slow down the old iPhones and insisting the users upgrade to latest iOS version immediately by showing repeated prompts on the screen.
Usually, every smartphone user expects new features in the latest operating system version. But Apple releases small version changes with no noticeable features every time except with the major OS versions.
New operating systems don’t work smooth on old hardware; we can accept the fact to a certain extent. But when there are no noticeable changes in the new OS versions then how we have to understand this?
As per the trusted sources from Apple, the company is intentionally discarding the older iPhones by slowing down them with the latest OS builds.
I know few people who didn’t upgrade to newer iOS versions on their iPhone 5s and 5C phones. Their devices are working as fast as newer iPhones such as iPhone 6, 6S, etc., But Apple forces them to upgrade frequently. If they still keep away from upgrading, Apple follows another strategy.
The second approach is changing the App Store policies. So App developers must modify the app compatibility to the newer iOS versions to list them on the App Store. If they didn’t comply with the Apple policies, they immediately pulled down from the Store. So those who are away from OS updates are not able to use regular applications like Whatsapp, Facebook, and other clients.
Compared to Android operating system Apple follows this forcing strategy in a rude manner. Still, 90% of the Android apps are compatible with older operating systems like Android 4.4. Google never insists users upgrade to new OS builds because it has no control over the hardware. But Apple enjoying the control on every device it manufactures and playing games with the end user and indirectly encouraging them to buy new iPhones to work smooth.
