Apple Doors Closed for dumping second-hand phones in to India

May 4, 2016 by computerera

Apple doesn’t know what strategy to follow to expand its market in India. Govt. of India expressed its opinions on importing second hand Apple phones into India.

Last week while attending a conference in China Apple CEO Tim Cook, expressed his opinions on the Indian mobile market. He specified the poor connectivity is the primary barrier to Apple’s growth in India. But the company’s real problem is different.

Apple can’t able make cheaper phones to exploit the market of lower-income groups in India. So Apple decided to import second-hand and refurbished iPhones from the USA for a lower a tag into the Indian market to encash the craze Indian people have on iPhones.

But the government of India expressed its opinion clearly by stating that policies are against for electronic waste, which indirectly causes hazardous issues of the nature and mankind.

Now Apple became helpless. In order to grab the Indian mobile market either it has to release at lease few models of cheaper phones or it has to quit the race and focus on US and European countries as already doing.

Right now there is a lot of electronic waste accumulating in India because people are changing phones at least two times a year. If the government permits companies like Apple to dump the used phones from foreign companies to India, we no way control electronic waste.

For Apple this is testing time because India is becoming the haven for mobile manufacturers if Apple failed to grab a particular share in it, it costs more for the company.

Is it Indians Failure or Apple’s Failure?

April 28, 2016 by computerera

tim cook

I hope you already read the comments of Apple CEO Tim Cook two days back about the Indian mobile market. He compared India with China and expressed that, India is 7-10 years behind than China concerning mobile infrastructure and other factors.

growth 12

Nobody asked his opinions about India. However, he analyzed latest Apple’s downtrends in revenue. You can see the Apple’s growth rate from 2010 to till date. In 2011, Apple’s quarterly results crossed 80%, but from 2013 to 2015 first quarter the results are dramatically decreased. The main reason for this is, iPhone followed 4-inch small screen form factor even most of the world moved to larger screens.

Once iPhone 6 plus with large screen introduced in 2014 Q3, you can clearly observe the reflection of growth in the above graph.

Now coming to India, Apple performance is no way related to India’s poor network infrastructure. India has average network speed of 2 Mbps. In few cities in India like Hyderabad, we have super speed connectivity up to 250 Mbps.

Apple should learn from Facebook and Google

Tech companies need to follow strategies to expand their market. If they neglect this, starts to blame certain markets, and people in those markets, it does more harm. Time to time Facebook, Google tweak their apps and platforms to work effectively in low bandwidth markets like South Africa, India. Apple also needs to follow this.

Reasons behind Apple’s failure in India

There are many potentialities in India. That is why India is becoming the hub for Mobile phone manufacturing. The entire globe is watching latest developments in the Indian Mobile market. If Apple fails to grab market share in India, it is Apple’s mistake not India or Indian’s mistake. Here are the few reasons for Apple’s failure in India.

1. Overpricing: Apple tries to exploit their goodwill by fixing premium prices for iDevices. Few days back Apple released their latest model iPhone SE. There are no new attractive features in it.

Apple publicized iPhone SE as the budget phone. However, contrary, Apple sells it for Rs. 39,000 in India. How can anybody purchase such outdated form factor with no additional benefits for such huge price tag? Apple is following the same strategy from the beginning. It makes phones for the US market and try to market them in India and other countries.

On an average, 50% of the Indian citizens purchase new phones once in a year. That itself revealing the real potentiality of the Indian consumer market.

2. App non availability: Indians have a tendency to use any product to its full extent. Once they purchased the phone, they try to explore various apps to get things done. Because of these only tech authors like me, focus on innovative apps.

The Apple App Store has a strong approval policy for app developers. Getting approved in the App Store is not at all an easy task. Sometimes app developers withdraw their intention to publish Apps on Apple App Store.

In this context, there is a very limited set of Apps available for Indian needs in the App Store. Most of the apps available there mainly targeted to US citizens only. We cannot get popular Indian apps also at the App Store. So non-availability of local apps is also an indirect reason for Apple’s failure in India.

Apple Recovered Gold from iPhone

April 18, 2016 by computerera

Apple uses Liam robot to extract material from non-functioning iPhones. Apple has a policy to replace defective iPhone when you surrender it to the service center. If the iPhone is repairable service center people repair it, if it fails to work, then they return it to the Apple godown.

Finally, Apple uses Liam robot to disassemble the iPhone and extract valuable metal from it.

According to the Business Insider report Apple extracted $40 million worth Gold from damaged iPhones, and 6 million worth copper from the damaged ones.

In traditional methods, it’s expensive to extract Gold from iPhones, that’s why Apple uses Liam robot for the purpose.

You can watch above video to get an idea about it.

Quick Time Windows is No More; Uninstall Right Now

April 15, 2016 by computerera

Apple officially announces the end of support for its runtime player, the Quick Time Windows. The player on Windows will not be getting any security updates from Apple any more and the company itself advises the Windows users to uninstall the Quick Time player as soon as possible.

quick-time-windows-player

*It is to be noted that applications and software which don’t get security updates are vulnerable to hacking and data theft.

What is the reason behind stopping the support for Windows?

There is no big reason behind the decision of Apple. The Windows OS has evolved into powerful and independent operating system and has more better runtime options. So, Apple has thought of ending support instead of working on it just for the sake of few applications.

Why it is important to uninstall Quick Time right now

The recent Zero Day Initiative studies about the recently detected vulnerabilities of Quick Time player, moov Atom heap Correction and Atom Processing Heap Correction which add up to the Apple’s depreciation news and stresses the security of the applications that are using Quick Time player.

Though there found no active attacks with these vulnerabilities so far as per Trend Micro, the better way yet to keep your computer and data on it safe is to uninstall Quick Time on Windows.

Are application using Quick Time are vulnerable too?

Yes! If the supportive plugin is vulnerable, the application using it will also be not safe. If you are aware of the sudden depreciation of adobe flash player; the applications using adobe flash player went void and stopped serving within short period of its dismissal. The same situation the Quick Time Windows is in, now.

How to check and uninstall Quick Time Windows?

You might have installed Quick Time knowingly or unknowingly on your Windows computer. You can uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > Search for ‘Quick Time’ > Click ‘Uninstall’.

Do not risk with your sensitive data on the computer. Outdated software is an open door for hackers. Stay safe.
