Your phone batteries will be safe soon with Non-flammable lithium-ion

August 18, 2016 by computerera

Non-flammable lithium-ion

Non-flammable lithium-ion batteries are coming. A battery explosion is a primary risk we always fear about while using smartphones and other gadgets.

Last month itself, I reported two cases of Xiaomi and iPhone battery explosion.

Researchers found a way to overcome battery damages caused by overheating and other defects. They developed a new type of lithium-ion battery that made with solid state chemical compounds which are non-flammable.

We can consider lithium-ion batteries as powerhouses. They store a lot of power in a small piece of material and provide energy to the smartphones, cameras, laptops and other modern day gadgets. Overheating is the major danger that leads to exploded battery in most of the cases.

In the conventional lithium-ion batteries, we are using right now, charging travels between positive and negative electrodes in a liquid form. When the battery is defective, or it overcharged, the liquid will catch fire.

The latest Lithium-Ion batteries use solid electrolyte in the battery. They are completely in the solid form. We can use the battery at higher temperatures. It can employ in a thin-film form that can be placed directly on silicon chips. The flexibility newer lithium-ion battery offer will be helpful to get more power in various thin films placed in the gadgets we regularly use.
