You need not have a serial number to activate Windows

August 14, 2016 by computerera

activate Windows

Up to the recent past, we must have a working product key to activate the Windows operating system once it installed on our computer. But things changed a lot.

Microsoft introduced “Digital Entitlement” concept with the Windows 10 operating system we are using right now. Very few people knew about the new feature. As a part of the new feature, Microsoft associates your Windows activation with your Microsoft account.

So now onwards whenever you are planning to fresh install the Windows 10 on the same desktop or laptop, it is sufficient to provide your Microsoft Account details to retrieve the activation you got earlier instead of the product key.

To get benefit from this new Digital Entitlement feature, first, you have to link your already activated Windows installation with your Microsoft account. For this, you must have to use Microsoft Account instead of Local account in your Windows User Account settings.

Follow the below steps to link your Windows 10 license with your Microsoft account.

1. Open Settings>Update and Security. Explore the “Activation” tab.

2. Here click on “Add a Microsoft account” option and enter your Microsoft Account credentials on the screen. You can create new Microsoft account if you don’t have one earlier.

That’s it, your existing desktop or laptop’s Windows license linked to your Microsoft Account and your system will automatically be got activated whenever you freshly install Windows on that particular system.

Best Practice – Hibernate your system instead of Shut down

May 28, 2016 by computerera

hibernate

Nowadays people want to customize their PC’s to complete their tasks very fast. To skip system shutdown and booting process time there is a feature you can use is hibernating your system. Every computer can use this feature no matter whether they are Laptops, Desktops, Macs, Chromebooks.

Why Hibernate

If you regularly use your system, and you want to shut down your PC or Laptop, you should save all the tasks which are running at the current time. Later if you want to switch on your system, you need to wait for the booting process to complete which takes minimum a 1 or 2 minutes. Once OS is up again, you need to relaunch all the programs which you are using and documents which you are editing.

Hibernate preserves the current session of all the programs and documents. When you are completed working on your system just close the lid of Laptop (select hibernate option on the desktop) or press the power button to hibernate the system without worrying about closing or save the process of your task.

When you come back and switch on the system, everything will be there exactly as you left. It will take less than one minute to back up the process if you hibernate your system. All your documents and programs remain same and ready to work instantly without waiting for the boot process to complete.

How it works

Hibernate saves the current tasks in your Hard disk and shut down completely, and it won’t consume any power to preserve the current it will load your data from the disk into RAM to resume the tasks and ready to work where you left.

Will Chromebook kill Windows Desktops and Laptops?

May 22, 2016 by computerera

chromebooks

Google is silently killing other mobile and desktop operating systems. When I started using touchscreen phones in 2004, Symbian was the popular mobile operating system. Once the Android 1.0 released in Sep 2008, everything has changed, and Android stood as the dominant operating system in the past decade.

Now Google Chromebook is drastically changing the desktop environment. The first time Google Chromebook outsold Apple Macs.

It is clearly indicating that the next target is Microsoft Windows desktops and laptops. As per the latest market share, Chromebooks became a second largest desktop device after Windows PCs.

The main advantages of Chromebooks are users doesn’t require any particular learning curve to adopt the device. Just you need to know how to use a web browser, and that’s enough you can use Chromebook quickly.

We are living in the Era, where all the desktop applications migrated to cloud-based applications. Now we can edit Docs, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations without installing MS office on the desktop with the help of Google Docs.

Not only Google Docs, there are plenty of popular desktop applications already migrated to a cloud environment. This is the major advantage for Google Chromebooks to expand its user base.

Google is bringing full pledged Android applications and games support to the Chromebooks. If it became reality, Chromebook offers more apps and Games than the quantity available for Windows users.

Still Windows can play a prominent role in the desktop environment in the near future because most of the traditional applications like Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premiere etc. are able to run on Windows desktop only. But the above mentioned scenario indicating that Chromebooks are going to dominate Windows desktops also in the figure.
