Now users can now use Skype without installing built-in plugin in their browsers. Microsoft recently announced that Skype now works with Microsoft Edge without any plugins installed in their browsers, but at present this feature is available only with Microsoft Edge, this feature will not work with other browsers like IE, FIREFOX, CHROME, OPERA etc at present, the user should install Microsoft edge in order to use this feature. Windows 10 by default comes with Microsoft Edge.

Skype for the web rolled out last year for the web users. Today Microsoft announced Skype for Web, Outlook.com, Office Online and OneDrive will support this plugin free Skype video, audio calls. Now you can simply have audio/video conversations on Skype for Web, Outlook.com, Office Online or OneDrive through Edge, no additional set-up process required for Skype.

At present Microsoft edge is currently available with Windows 10. Microsoft edge is the replacement for Internet explorer in Windows 10. Microsoft edge uses ORTC technology,a standard for video streams over the Web, that helps the Skype to work without plugin in Microsoft edge.

All Skype one-to-one calls from Microsoft Edge to the users who are using latest versions of Skype for Windows and Skype for Mac,i.e the other person with whom you are talking to must be on the latest version of Skype for Windows or Mac.

The plug-in free Skype does not support some features like Screen sharing and Calling landlines and mobiles ,so that the user should install plug-in for this.

Microsoft is planning to bring a plugin free audio and video calling in future for chrome and Firefox, for this the browsers should support H.264 video codec, but H.264 video codec is not compatible with chrome and Firefox at present. They are still in development stage, so now Microsoft edge users can now use Skype without plug-in installed in their browsers.
