First of all, you need to keep track of your data regularly to have an idea of your data usage. You can track this easily by going into Settings > Data Usage.
You can set cellular data limit which will automatically turn off the data access. The cellular and your carrier’s data measure will slightly differ, so it is suggested that you keep the data limit to a little lower than your actual data plan, so that you may not go off your data.
You can also easily check the data usage of various apps on your mobile here and get a rough idea about the apps on their data usage. So that you can be cautious while use them on your cellular data.
Restrict your background data:
Many apps actually use a lot of data that we don’t even get to know. That happens when they run in the background. Why not stop the background running of apps which waste a lot of data. To do this you need to go to Settings > Data Usage and there you can find a three dot icon Restrict choose background data and click on it to save the wastage of your data by apps in the background.
