How to enable tracking in your Windows laptop

Many of us know about the tracking feature available in our Android and iOS devices, but very few are aware of the same type of feature available in Windows run desktop PCs and laptops. This may turn you on but this feature doesn’t let you perform actions like remotely wiping or locking your Windows device. So, let us now take a look at the process of enabling that feature in your Windows 10 run laptops or PCs.

One thing to note before you dig into the process is that this method works only with devices that have a GPS chip, a cellular connection or any other such means that help the device in determining its location.

Steps for enabling laptop tracking in Windows 10

  • As a first step, you should make sure that the location services on your device are on, You can do that by searching for Location privacy settings
  • You can just select the result found and then check whether the location of your device is on, if not turned on just toggle the button
  • Once the location is on, open the start menu and search for Find My Device
  • Select the option from the results found and toggle the switch to turn it on
  • Now, you are done with setting up the things in your device
  • You can simply view your device on Microsoft’s website  and check the location of your device by clicking on the option Find My Device
  • It will show the location of your device on the map

Thus, this laptop tracking feature may come to your rescue at times.

  • Quick Assist is an application available as an inbuilt feature in Windows 10 This app helps in creating a virtual or network connection between the two devices and both the devices must be running on Windows 10 only
  • You can the Quick Assist app under Windows Accessories in the Start menu. When you find it, just launch it
  • Now in the pop up that appears, just check the option ‘give assistance’and then you will get a unique code displayed on your screen which will expire in a few minutes
  • You need to note that code and send it to your friend or family member on the other side
  • When the person on the other side provide this unique code in his/her app, then the connection between the two devices will be created

This will allow the user on one side to remotely operate the computer of the person on the other side. Troubleshooting in Windows 10 can thus be a simple task.

How to auto-shutdown a Windows 10 Computer

Sitting in front of the computer will definitely make you forget the time and any important work that you might have. It might be a game or any other simple web browsing that you might be doing on the computer. If you really want to be disciplined and also feel it is important to have a strict schedule to be followed, then even your computer is going to help you for sure. Your Windows 10 PC has this feature that might help you a lot. To auto-shutdown your computer after a certain time, you just need to follow these following steps

  • Search for ‘Task Scheduler’ in the Cortana Search bar and then just click on that program.
  • Now the task Scheduler window will open and then you have to click on the option ‘Create Basic task…’
  • Now you just have to set a name to the task, as it is the auto shutdown task that we are creating, so just go for it, or you can even set anything you want, and add a description, then click Next.
  • Then in the next step, you just need to select the repetition of your task that you have scheduled whether daily, weekly, monthly or once. There are various other options available as well. After that click on Next.
  • In the Next step, you have to set the exact time at which you want that task to be done.
  • Now it’s the time to choose the action you want the task to do. There are three options available Start a Program, Send an Email, Display a Message
  • Click on Select a Program
  • Now click on Browse and then open the C:\Windows\System32 folder and select the file Shutdown.exe
  • In the arguments box add -s -t x, replace the x with the number of seconds within which you would like to shut down the Ex: -s -t 1800, click Next
  • It will then show the overview of the settings and choices that you have chosen, just check them all and click on Finish.

That’s all, you are done with scheduling the auto-shutdown in your Windows 10 computer.

How to use Built-in screen recorder in Windows 10

Screen recording is used by many people on their computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones for various purposes. Gaming people use this recording feature for recording their gaming achievements. And many of us record screens for sending how-to videos for our friends and family. For this purpose, we use various third party recording applications, but for those people who use Windows 10, there is a built-in screen recorder.

Here is how to use built-in screen recorder:

  • Click on the Start button and then click on the Xbox application.
  • After opening the app, then just hit the combo keys Win + G on the screen which you want to take a screenshot or record which opens the Game Bar.
  • The game bar asks you where whether it is game where you need to just lie and check the box that says “Yes, This is a game”
  • After doing that you will see a game bar with the following options

Screen Recorder

  • You can just hit on the screenshot to take a screenshot of your screen or click on Start recording to record the screen.

The screenshots and screen recordings can be found in the C:\Users:\[username]:\Videos:\Captures or even Game DVR tab of the Xbox app has your recordings and screenshots.

That is it, using these steps you can very easily record the screen without the help of any third party app in Windows 10.

How to disable/enable on screen keyboard in Windows 10

On-Screen keyboard is the one most important thing that comes to our rescue when the physical keyboard stopped working or got some issues. This keyboard is part of the ease of access tools and it will serve the best for the physically challenged or the elder ones.

It can be used to operate on a touch screen device that runs on Windows 10. Or we can even operate it with a pointing device as well. Now let me explain you how to disable/enable the keyboard on your laptop or PC.

  • The first and very simple way using which you can easily enable the keyboard is by just opening the Start and then type OSK in the search and then press Enter.
  • Another way is just go to the Start, then click on Settings>Ease of Access>Keyboard, now toggle the switch to get the on-screen keyboard.
  • This keyboard can also be accessed from the sign in screen, it will be available on the ease of Access button which can be seen on the lower right corner of the screen.

For disabling the OSK in your Windows 10, you can just do the following things

  • Go to Start>Settings>Ease of Access> Keyboard, then turn off the toggle switch
  • Press Windows + R key which displays the Run dialogue box, then type regedit and press Enter

Then navigate through like this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Authentication > LogonUI

Then click on ShowTabletKeyboard and to enable it, set the value to 1 and to disable it set the value to 0.

Avoid the Windows Registry mode if you are not sure about the process. Using these simple steps you can easily disable/enable the virtual keyboard.
