Up to the recent past, we must have a working product key to activate the Windows operating system once it installed on our computer. But things changed a lot.
Microsoft introduced “Digital Entitlement” concept with the Windows 10 operating system we are using right now. Very few people knew about the new feature. As a part of the new feature, Microsoft associates your Windows activation with your Microsoft account.
So now onwards whenever you are planning to fresh install the Windows 10 on the same desktop or laptop, it is sufficient to provide your Microsoft Account details to retrieve the activation you got earlier instead of the product key.
To get benefit from this new Digital Entitlement feature, first, you have to link your already activated Windows installation with your Microsoft account. For this, you must have to use Microsoft Account instead of Local account in your Windows User Account settings.
Follow the below steps to link your Windows 10 license with your Microsoft account.
1. Open Settings>Update and Security. Explore the “Activation” tab.
2. Here click on “Add a Microsoft account” option and enter your Microsoft Account credentials on the screen. You can create new Microsoft account if you don’t have one earlier.
That’s it, your existing desktop or laptop’s Windows license linked to your Microsoft Account and your system will automatically be got activated whenever you freshly install Windows on that particular system.
